Trading Activity On 19 Nov 21: Sold Off Alphabet & Apple LEAPS, Bought New LEAPS in Microsoft, Apple & FB

With Apple and Alphabet (Google) shares trading near their all-time high prices, I took the opportunity to take profits on the LEAPS contracts that have the shortest expiration date, at June 2022. I bought these 2 LEAPS contracts 3 months ago in Aug 2022 and the expiration dates of June 2022, which is 7 months away, were too short for my comfort now.

The details are as follow for reference:

Type of Option: LEAPS CALL
Stock: Apple
Strike Price: $150
Expiration: 17 June 2022
Bought on: 19 Aug 2021
Share price was: $146.50
Delta: 0.517
Premium paid: $1421
Sold for: $1852
Profit: $431 (30.33%)

Type of Option: LEAPS CALL
Stock: Alphabet Inc Class C
Strike Price: $3500
Expiration: 17 June 2022
Bought on: 24 Aug 2021
Share price was: $2848
Delta: 0.196
Premium paid: $6450
Sold for: $9300
Profit: $2850 (44.19%)

With the profits and capital available, I bought the following longer-term LEAPS CALL contracts:

2 x Microsoft LEAPS, Expiration date: 19 Jan 2024, Strike Price: $500, Premium: $13.40
4 x Apple LEAPS, Expiration date: 19 Jan 2024, Strike Price: $260, Premium: $6.30
1 x Facebook LEAPS, Expiration date: 19 Jan 2024, Strike Price: $650, Premium: $16.80

These 3 companies are my strong conviction stocks and they are also in the Top 6 most valuable companies in the whole world. So, with more than 2 years to go before the LEAPS contract expires, I am very sure the share price will eventually exceed the share price that I bought at, thus allowing me to profit from the magnified gain of the premium. Thank you for reading and have a lovely weekend with your loved ones.

  1. As with all of your trades you’d have done much much better using shorter term options. Trying to time the markets as you’re trying to do is hard enough, then trying to time them with LEAPS is evenore difficult. There is a reason no institutions use leaps to try and time the markets.
