The Singapore education system has gained some negative publicity in recent years, with a horror killing in school and a difficult primary school Maths exam paper which made many students feel demoralised. All these years, the education has always known to be stressful and competitive, leaving some parents no other choice but to seek help from private tuition to help their child cope.
In today’s post, I am not going to critique the Singapore education system but rather, I would like to share my gratitude for the knowledge that I gained out of it. I am thankful that I learnt Mandarin Chinese in school for a good 10 years from primary school to secondary school. Because of this experience, I am able to converse in Mandarin and mostly importantly understand Mandarin, which is critical in my investing journey.
Learning the techniques of investing and options trading equip you with the tools to carry out your mission but not knowing what stocks to invest in means you are doing it blindfolded. Even with the best tools, you will end up losing money if you pick the wrong stocks or the right stocks at the wrong price.
It is important to keep updated on market trend and listen to market analysts talk about stock behaviors. I spend most of my daily YouTube educational time listening to my favourite financial YouTuber analyse the market trends and explain the rationale behind the respective stock’s performance and movement. Many of the videos that I watch daily are from analysts speaking in Mandarin, and if I do not understand the language, I will be losing out on much valuable information.
