Ever since the dreadful Sep 23 where I cut 28k of losses from expiring bearish spread options that did not go well, the following 9 months had yield positive returns for me.

The total earnings from options trading from Oct 23 to June 24 is S$43.36k, which works out to S$4.8k per month. This average monthly returns exceeds my expectation of earning S$3k of monthly sideline income from options trading.

Concluding Thoughts
It has been a good past one year for the US stock market. If a normal investor bought the safest S&P 500 ETF stock (e.g. SPY) with $100,000 a year ago, his investment would become $125,000 now (25% gain in just one year).
If he had invested $100,000 into Nvidia one year ago, he would have $300,000 now.
I am thankful for the profits gained over the last 9 months but at the same time, I am also glad I made the decision to switch direction in mid 2023 after losing much money by being over-bearish at the start of 2023.
After losing more than S$40k in bearish vertical spreads in 2023 and getting stuck in many of my Covered CALL positions when I opened the SELL CALL contracts just before the market bottomed, I am now slowly recovering and have repaired some of my broken trades from 2023. I also diffused my Nvidia timebomb and is no longer selling any naked CALL.
It has been a roller coaster ride for me in this options trading journey but I also learned many lessons, often through the hard way of losing money. I hope the lessons and experiences that I share on this blog can help you avoid certain pitfalls so your investing/ trading journey would be smoother. If you are currently dealing with losses in your investing/ trading journey, don’t despair because there is always a chance that things will get better and that you will eventually become profitable.
